Brewing the Perfect Cup

My name is Shålaco and I am an addict; I have finally come to admit that I have a drinking problem. I have become a coffee snob.

I have developed a ritual for brewing a perfect cup of coffee.

After filling a kettle with twice as much water as I will require I grind 3 table spoons of coffee beans. This morning I am using Bella Donovan Beans from Blue Bottle Coffee Company. I have become so familiar with their beans as of late that I can distinguish several roasts by taste. The date on the back of the bag of beans reassures me that these beans are fresh. They were roasted on January 6th, just three days ago. However, these beans are already to old to meet Blue Bottles high quality of standards; they don’t serve beans that are more than two days old. {The length of my discourse is merely another sign of my addiction.}

After grinding the beans finely and rinsing out the paper filter I use a hand mixer to whip some heavy cream and honey. I am taking my lead from Philz here, who’s secret ingredient {shhh} is heavy whipping cream and rose water. Philz practically creams their coffee with butter, which explains why Vegans are typically not afflicted with the startlingly common addiction to their coffee. This is the {crack} secret ingredient that is alluded to on their sign.

Finally I pour just enough water into the porcelain dripper to submerge the grounds. Taking a moment to admire the pluming of the coffee grounds, a true sign of freshness, and deeply enhale the coffee flavored steam that eddies through the air.

Ahhhhh! Coffeeliciousness!

    This is a beautiful post, and a sweet photo, natch. Yrs truly misses the olde blue bottle.

    Kudos on your new pastime… Here’s to new beginnings.

    p.s. Stick with honey, and eschew the sugars.
