Everyone got together around a warm fire at the Merry-Go-Round for their second rehearsal. It’s amazing to watch musicians deconstruct and reconstruct a song right in front of you.
Ken is just starting to play with the group and comes from a blues background. Blues is structured very differently in comparison to Diana’s very eclectic style which is more narrative and often based around the vocals cuing the other instruments.
It is very interesting listening to them teaching a new person how to play a song because it often involves Diana having to deconstruct and figure out something that she does intuitively.
I am astounded to hear them talk about 5 different aspects and cues of a song and then play it out. Musicians amaze me in the way they can intuitively do something as if it were second nature. I think the reason I have a hard time cognitively keeping up with their musical conversations is that they are cognoscentes of a musical language.
Deja Que Salga La Luna Rehearsal
Diana has a beautiful voice and the diversity of the languages she sings in, english, french, and spanish, are reflected in the musical stylings and diversity of the group.
If you dig this eclectic blend of music you should check them out this Saturday the 9th @ the Independent where they open for Locura.
