The First Mushroom Harvest

We started growing mushrooms at the Merry-Go-Round. Last week we had our first harvest of delicious delicious shiitakes. It’s an entirely mind expanding experience to realize that you can harvest mushrooms in your own home and then eat them 10 minutes later. A Pygmy forest of deliciousness. Though there are benefits to sun drying shiitakes as it brings out the umami flavor or savoriness. They are so delicious that they can be served as an appetizer or side dish all on their own.

We split the shiitake patch in two, and we just got a tree oyster mushroom patch. If we stagger the crops correctly we should have a mushroom harvest every week!
